Welcome to the fifth oldest church still in use in Australia.

St Thomas' Church was built by convict labour under military supervision in the reign of King George IV - when Australia was still part of the Diocese of Calcutta, and Port Macquarie was a Penal Settlement. Learn more about the history.

A major study of the conservation needs of the church was completed in 1998. Some of the needs are urgent, while others can be spread over many years. Restoration work began with renovating the historic cedar box pews in 1998/9. An appeal to raise the funds required for the next stage is now under way.
