St. Thomas’ Church Baptism Overview
Baptism is one of the two Sacraments instituted by Jesus Christ for his followers. The other is the Lord’s Supper (often called Holy Communion or the Eucharist). Christians today often have their babies baptized using the service of Infant Baptism. These children are later able to Confirm the promises made at their baptism for themselves when they desire this.
Often people today were not baptized as infants and so they can choose to be baptized as adults. The service of Confirmation and the Sacrament of adult Baptism are thus linked. In both cases the adult in public indicates by their action a desire to stand up for Jesus Christ, trust him and to be initiated into his Body, the Church.
